Great Addons to Help You Make Money in WOW

There are some really cool addons to help you make money in WOW. They make life (when I say life, I don’t mean boring real life but the wonderful World of Warcraft) a lot easier and will really speed up your gold making efforts!
These are only some of the great WOW addons out there but I think they’re just about the best of the bunch. If you think I’ve missed any WOW money addons, drop me a line and I’ll take a look.
NPCScan
NPCScan Notice
If you’re one of those people that like to hunt for rare mobs which often drop great loot (which you can sell for lots of money in WOW!) then this is definitely the World of Warcraft addon for you. Basically whenever you’re near a rare mob, if the mob is in the NPCScan database (and most are) then a notice will be displayed (and it will make a noise as well) telling you that you’ve found it.
You may not think this is that helpful but trust me, many of these rare mobs wander about and hide in places, so this addon will save you a load of time hunting for the rare mobs to get their valuable loot.

Auctioneer
OK, this WOW addon is quite a bit more complicated! LOL
It does too much to go into great detail in this post but basically it scans the AH and gets a whole host of information from it. This information really helps you to make sure you sell your hard earned items at the maximum price and painlessly as possible. It also shows you lots of detail on items in your backpack, such as disenchant value and market sale price etc.
The Basics of Improving Your WOW Gold Daily Amount
There are various (fairly) advanced guides in this blog but I thought I’d cover the basics in this post.
The basic rule of thumb is that you want to find ways in WOW that reduces the time you have to take to get X number of gold per day.
First of all, ways of reducing your time should never include buying gold or using hacks or any automated programs.
And the X is generally an amount of gold that you want to set yourself per day, to reach whatever target that you want.
AOE Farming
This is where you take one of your characters that has good AOE and find groups of monsters that are slightly lower level than you. You run around getting as many as you can safely handle then use your AOE (area of effect) spells or abilities to make short work of them! It’s a little boring after you’ve done the same group of camps again and again but you can get lots of sellable items and some rare items if you’re lucky.
These can all be sold to either NPC merchants or the Auction House.
Gathering
Another popular way is to run around some high level areas and gather as many trade skill materials as you can then sell them on the Auction House.
There is a way to dramatically improve the speed of your gathering by using various addons. You can learn more in our Great WOW Addons post (look for the Gatherer section).
Auction House Trader
This can earn you huge amounts of gold but it is the most difficult to learn. The idea is simple; you buy items from the Auction House that are selling below the usual ‘market value’ price then sell them for a profit.
A lot of this is just getting the idea of knowing which items sell for which price and spotting the bargains. But there is a really good addon called Auctioneer that can automate a a lot of the manual ‘work’ in the Auction House. Again, check our addons page to learn about this amazing addon.

I know our readers have been asking for more WOW gold guide posts and other gold tips for WOW. Sorry about the delay in updating this website but I have been flat out on another project but will be writing more gold guides for WOW as soon as I can.
On a side note, has anyone of our readers had problems in Auctioneer recently? I am getting strange symbols in some of the results. Auctioneer is normally an amazing addon for WOW to help me make tons of gold but it has been playing up for me this week. I took me ages to read through and even now, I’ve skimmed a couple of parts but I know enough to give a full review showing the good and bad sides of this WOW gold guide.
Cataclysm Mining and Iron Spider Silk to Really Help Make Gold in WOW
Here are a couple of useful tips on using the new Cataclysm zones and changes to loot tables to make gold in WOW.
Cataclysm Mining
Obsidium is an AMAZING seller on the auction house because players need a lot of it to begin leveling their tradeskills from 450. So Obsidium will be much in demand and you’ll be able to make some serious WOW gold farming it!
There are only three zones you can even farm for Obsidium. Mount Hyjal and Vashj’ir are two zones where you will be able to farm for Obsidium exclusively. So if you see a DOT on your minimap it’s bound to be Obsidium!
Mount Hyjal is easy to get to for mining to make money in WOW but for Vashj’ir you MUST complete the beginning quest chains to obtain the Abyssal Seahorse Mount. You absolutely CANNOT farm in Vashj’ir without this because the zone is huge.

I thought I’d share some basic tips how to make gold in WOW with you, before I get into complete details of the WOW gold guide tips.
Some Basic World of Warcraft Gold Making Tips
I found the information in the World of Warcraft gold guide much more useful and if you’ve played WOW for some time, you’ll probably know these. But at least this gives you a starting point on making gold if you’re new to World of Warcraft.
Professions - Primary and Secondary professions can help you make money in WOW. You make make items and sell them to people. Finding the best spots for professions, like mining, is the tricky part though (it’s covered in the gold guide which I’ll go into later).
The Auction House - This is a minefield but you can do some serious WOW gold making here, if you know the right products to sell and what’s in demand! More details later on how to use the AH for making gold in WOW.
Beginner WOW Gold Making Ideas
Hey there,
I thought I would start with some beginner ways to make gold in WOW. These will probably not be too useful if you have played WOW for a long time but if you’re fairly new to World of Warcraft then these will give you a start on the many gold making methods in WOW.
Professions - These are split up into gathering and making type professions. An example of a gathering type profession is Mining, where you go around the world in WOW and mine ore from mining ‘nodes’. You can either sell the ore to the auction house or trade channel or even better, make various items with your ‘making’ type professions.
An example of a ‘making’ type profession in WOW is Weaponsmith. So you can use the ore that you mine, to make good weapons (eventually) and sell them on the AH or directly to people. Some of the rarer player made armor and weapons can be sold for a lot of gold in WOW.
